Military time is a language widely used in the armed forces, and a code that stands in place of conventional time. It allows for the accurate tracking of hours, no matter the time zone, by using 24-hour increments. Each hour is marked by four digits, with the first two used to denote the hour and the last two used to denote the number of minutes that have passed since that hour began. As such, 0730 military time would correspond to 7:30am.
In order to efficiently communicate with each other during battle, members of the military began using military time long ago. This allows them to keep track of hours no matter where they may be around the globe and ensures accuracy in communication despite different zones or locations. To convert from standard opm or am times to military times, simply subtract 12 from any pm hours before noon. That would mean that 7:30am would become 0730 in military terms because it is less than noon.
On occasion, you may find yourself needing to use military time when speaking with an airline representative or if you are traveling abroad more frequently than expected. It can also be helpful when setting appointments quickly or when writing down an exact meeting time as you have synced different types of clocks together all at once. To go back from 0730 Military Time to normal Standard Time, simply add 12 and read off exactly what hour it is in numerical form since it is more than noon. This can help prevent issues such as unnecessary confusion when setting events in stone!
